Here is a list of all the things I bought from water-side vendors at on a recent trip to Juhu Beach (supposedly where all the movie stars hang out, although despite my best efforts I didn't spot any):
- a little plastic boomerang with a blue light in its tail. When tossed into the night sky, it returned to nearly the same spot it left from
-roasted corn smeared with salt, pepper and lemon juice (the man roasted it over an open flame...)
-a kala khatta (a snowcone on a stick)
-pistachio ice cream (at last, i found it!)
-a mehendi stamp (meant for self-tattooing with henna, but actually purchased for the somewhat dubious purpose of giving to my sister for use in printmaking)
-fresh lychees (from a man with a fruit cart. He had three of four pyramids of berries on this cart. I pointed to one of the pyramids and asked what it was made of. My cousin replied, "something weird." She said this about everything except for the lychees)
-a tiny replica of an auto-rickshaw, made from gold-plated wire
Really, it was a road-side vending bonanza.
it would be intersting to know your total capital outlay for this purchasing cycle :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha! (I deserved that:) Probably about $10. Totally worth it.
